There is one gift that I always gift children- figurines.
Animals , birds, sea- world, dinousaurs figurines , you name it and turns out to be interesting for children.
We sometimes underestimate the play that comes with figurines. For some reason it is not something we look for, when we decide to buy something for our children.
I personally believe that these figurines bring in hours and hours of free /unstructured play. When I want some downtime to nap or read a book or like how I am writing this blogpost, I invite my children to play with their figurines.
There goes in loads of pretend play, story building and in fact you can also use these to work on their vocabulary or for object-picture matching when their young. Click here to read more about it.
I have had the same set of figurines for over 4- 5 years now and we still use it often.
Having said that, you need to buy figurines that closely resemble the actual bird/animal.
There is this amazing brand called Safari Ltd on amazon which is so adorable and would even want an adult to play with it. However, they cost a bomb.
So I have done the ground work for you and I am putting this list out for you.
Figurines that we have at home
Other figurines which I like but haven’t had a chance to check for their quality
Other places you can find these figurines are
- Aquarium shops. Ask and you will be surprised to see the variety
- Craft shops- apparently miniatures are a rage in craft shops.
- Shops during Golu /Navaradiri Season
